On February 12, 2020, the first direct accelerated tank-container train was sent from the Salavat station of the Kuibyshev railway to the Kotka station of the Finland railway. The container train includes 114 tank containers with products of the largest petrochemical complex in Russia - Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat LLC (part of the Gazprom group) - inhibited vinylbenzene (styrene). The scope of this petrochemical product is quite extensive, but styrene is mainly used for the production of polymers. Products are shipped to all federal districts of the country, in general, the geography of exports covers more than 50 countries of near and far abroad, as well as China, the UK and Western Europe. This joint project of SpeсTransContainer LLC, a branch of TransContainer PJSC on the Kuibyshev Railway and the Kuibyshev Territorial Center for Corporate Transport Services (TСFTO) sets a new level of service for chemical manufacturers. For the first time, not carriage shipments were organized for the transportation of chemistry, that is, individual lots in freight trains, but a single accelerated tank-container train. Previously, carload shipments reached the border with Finland in 8-9 days. Due to the fact that the accelerated container train will proceed without disbanding at the marshalling yards, the path from the Salavat station to the border station Buslovskaya of the Oktyabrskaya Railway will take him only 3 days. Next, the train will be transferred to the Finland Railway, after which the cargo will be sent to the recipients. According to SpeсTransContainer LLC, General Director Boris Borisov, loading in the direction of Finland will amount to 2-3 trains with a further prospect of increasing to 4-5 container trains per month. The implementation of the project opens up broad prospects for the further development of tank-container transportation, especially in the direction of ports and expands the export opportunities of the Russian chemical industry. At present, the possibility of organizing transportations by accelerated tank-container trains in the direction of the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin, where a terminal network has been developed for transshipment of chemical goods and their further transportation for export, is being studied. NOTE At the end of 2019, the total volume of transportation of bulk cargoes and gases in tank containers increased by 14% and amounted to 510 thousand TEU. At the same time, loaded exports grew by 21%, domestic transportation by 11%, and imports decreased by 6.2%.
